FEAST OF THE CONVERSION OF ST PAUL, 25th January

"Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples....... As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

The honours boys

When we go to take assemblies at St James's School I often look at this honours board in what was the boys' assembly hall of Alexis Street School (later Alma School).

It gives a fascinating insight to Bermondsey boys names of nearly a century ago: the Stanleys, the Horaces, the Walters the Herberts and all the others.

I wonder what these bright lads went on to do? Whatever they did, I am glad they are remembered.

Back to school

The children from St James's School were back today after their Christmas holidays, and we started the term with a beginning of term Epiphany Service in the church.

We sang, we heard the story of the wise men, and we prayed: 'Heavenly Father, we thank you that the wise men brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to Jesus. May we bring our gifts to him and may we serve him as our king today and always. Amen.'
