Today the UK joined Germany in having a vicar's daughter as its head of government.
When she appeared on Desert Island Discs, the then Home Secretary, chose as one of her selections of favourite pieces of music, 'When I survey the wondrous cross', said she still went to church regularly and commented on her faith: 'It's part of me, part of who I am and how I approach things.'
Today the Bishop of London said of the new Prime Minister: 'She has profound Christian convictions, not only inherited but also of her own.'
We pray for her in her new weighty responsibilities that she will be guided by those convictions and strengthened by God's grace.
