Teachers, thank you!

Today is National Thank a Teacher Day. What a great idea!

We owe so much to teachers, especially during these difficult days of lockdown.

So, teachers everywhere: THANKYOU, and a special thankyou to the wonderfully gifted and committed teachers at our own Church of England primary school, of  St James.

Thank you for all you do, and may God bless you in your work.

Estates ministry

A lot of church life is taking place on Zoom at the present and today I was involved in an online consultation on estates ministry alongside Jay Colwill, the Diocesan Missioner.

There were twenty-five of us taking part, dividing for part of the time into smaller break out groups, then coming back together.

Lots of good ideas and enthusiasm for sharing the good news of Christ on the social housing estates of south London and east Surrey.

Hope

Sir Simon Hughes reading a message of hope at this Sunday's VE Day service:

We'll meet again

Here is St Anne's member Dave on a visit to Dame Vera Lynn.

Dave is a great Vera Lynn fan who, until recently, used to like to take birthday greetings in person to the forces sweetheart.

If you haven't yet seen our special VE Day themed service, there is still time to watch it here

Remembering with thanks

Today has been a good day for remembering a great victory over an evil tyranny and thanking God for the freedom and peace that has come with it, that we have all enjoyed.

My dad (left) has been in my thoughts on this 75th anniversary of VE Day.

He joined the Royal Navy in 1939 and served for the whole of the war.

I'll be saying a little about him in our special VE Day-themed service this Sunday (see below).

Do make a point of watching it.
